In the Sandymount sunshine Railway girls enjoyed two successes in the Inter 1 and Inter Div 4 titles.
It was the Inter As who started proceedings in front of a strong home support including many of our womens players and other junior teams and many parents supporting their teams.
It was Pembroke who started strongly dominating possession and territory creating circle entries and short corners as Railway struggled to cope. Eventually the pressure told and Pembroke were rewarded for their pressure deservedly taking the lead.
As both coaches started to make changes the game swung towards Railway as they began to take control of the final. It was a well worked penalty corner back to Clara-Michelle Howard who has pushed it out who slotted the ball home to equalise and leave it level at half time.
In the second half both sides had opportunities, but Railway were in the ascendency creating more opportunities and it was no surprise when Charlotte Furlong got a deflection past the Pembroke keeper to put Railway 2-1 ahead. Railway were unable to get the third goal and were always susceptible to the counter attack, thankfully the girls closed the game out for a successful end to the season. It was the second year in a row this team won the Inter A league and have been a really committed and talented group of players.
A big thanks to coaches Niall Fogarty and Hannah Rooney for their commitment throughout the year and none more so than yesterday where it was evident coaching decisions made and player pitch time during the game was managed much better by the Railway coaching team compared to Pembroke.
