Inter 4 Shield Final
It was another Sandymount – Ballsbridge derby in the Inter 4 final with two closely matched teams coming together and after drawing 0-0 in their league match earlier in the season. The match started off with a fast pace with both sides creates chances but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping keeping it scoreless. Similar to the early final it was Pembroke who took the lead with a well worked move and having the composure to finish well. The response from the home team was immediate and in their next attack down the right a good cross was finished with style to level the scores.
Despite many chances with both sides have a series of penalty corners in the second half the match ended 1-1 and went into penalty shuttles. They also ended 1-1 with Mary-Ethna scoring Railway’s only 1v1 and when it went into sudden death goalkeeper Chloe Hiles saved the Pembroke effort and Railway captain Mary-Ethna stepped up to score the winning shuttle to win the final for the girls.
In what started with a difficult encounter away to Carlow back in September the team have really developed throughout the year in a tightly contested league. A big thanks to Georgia (Gigi) for coaching the team and the parents who assisted during the year too and well done to the girls.
