Railway Junior Hockey

u12 boys win 4-1 with a Patrick Woods hattrick

After narrowly missing out on qualifying Top 2 in their group the "green team" progressed through to the Shield final after a 7-0 semi-final demolition of Pembroke they faced Nass u12As in the decider at the recently re-surfaced pitch at K-Leisure in Nass.
Railway got off to a flyer and in the second minute good work down the left from Charlie Trotter & Patrick cut open the Nass defence and Andi Zhu was perfectly position at the back post to make it 1-0.
Nass responded well and from a 4v3 they equalised minutes later but Railway restored their lead when Patrick Woods opened his own account with a fine reverse stick finish. With Railway on top they were creating plenty of chances and a driving run from Zac Carroll put Woods through on goal again and he extended the lead to 3-1 at half time.
The coaching teams delivered their half time team talks and Coach Tom Stuart's talk proved the decisive one as within a minute of the re-start Railway had extended their lead as Patrick W completed his hat-trick and gave Railway a three goal cushion.
Naas rallied after this and started to put more sustained pressure on Railway forcing a number of 4v3s but the defensive work from Kevin Stuart, Riain O'Brien and James Emerson with James Hiles in goals keeping the home side at bay. Whilst Railway had chances of their own it they could not get number 5 and it was the home side who enjoyed the better of the second period but were unable to break through the strong Railway midfielders rotating in the warm sunny conditions of Stephen O'Leary, Zac Carroll, Charlie Trotter and Dominic McCarthy in the Kalvin Philips holding midfield role proving a tactical winner for Railway. Both sides will be disappointed not to score more in the second half but it was a deserved Railway team that was victorious 4 goals to 1.
Captain Charlie Trotter made a speech thanked Naas for hosting the final and in particular Kathryn Henderson who orgainsed cakes and tea afterwards as part of a Ukraine fundraising
A big thanks for all the boys u12 coaches Tom Stuart, Corry Bourke and Hugh Dolan and all the parents for supporting the boys throughout the year.
