The Railway Boys u12 Green team hosted their neighbours from the other side of the train tracks this afternoon in the u12 league. An even encounter in the first half saw chances at a premium with Railway holding their own against a physically stronger Pembroke team. It was Pembroke who took the lead with a well worked goal and despite Railway having good possession they could not get enough shots on target.
Railway stepped it up in the second half and started to dominate but were caught on the counter attack failing to close Pembroke down and they made no mistake from a free shot at the edge of the circle.
The more skilful and youthful Railway team kept pushing and were awarded when the impressive Zac Carroll scored a reverse stick effort and with 8 minutes to go it provided an opportunity to get back on level terms. It was all one way traffic and Railway won several 4v3s without being able to force an equaliser and this combined with some robust tackling ensure the home side were kept at bay.
In the last minute Railway won another PC / 4v3 and worked it well but the final shot went wide in what was a familiar story of the day for the lads.
Pembroke now move above Railway at the top of their section with Railway on 9 points after 4 matches and Pembroke on 10 points. Both teams are well placed to qualify through for the post season play offs
