The u14As returned to hockey with their first competitive match in two years and they took on Pembroke in the u14A league. Under the coaching direction of Andy McGregor this group have been developing for several years and today they proved they could be a team to watch this year. Driven in midfield by Toby O'Connell and Rob O'Brien they took control of the match from the start and dominated possession and territory creating several good chances.
After a series of penalty corners and circle penetrations Railway took the lead half way through the first half as young Charlie Trotter showed great composure in front of goal to slot home his 6th goal of the season (after scoring 5 in a friendly versus Bray last week), their lead was doubled as Rob O'Brien fired home after beating a number of PW defenders.
The second half started with Pembroke on the ascendancy and Zach Johnson scored in the first minute and the match became much more even, as Railway started to squander chances shooting wide or taking the wrong option a smart save from Luke Murphy in the Railway goal protected their now precarious one goal lead. However, with 5 minutes to go calm work from right back Ian Campbell in the attacking circle picked out Thomas Paraskevas who slotted home for a 3-1 win.
A strong team performance particularly with some notable absentees today, Three Rock away next up in the league on Sunday 17th Oct which will be another level up from today
