Railway boys u14s defeated YM boys in the Leinster Cup semi-final today at Weasley College.
It was the Sandymount boys who got off to a flying start with Stephen O’Leary putting them ahead with a fine solo run and after his initial shot was well saved Railway recycled possession and O’Leary dispatched a reverse stick high into the net.
Things got better after a rash tackle on the marauding Zac Carroll the penalty corner unit delivered goal No 2 as Stephen O’Leary displayed his class to drag flick top corner to give Railway a two goal advantage after 3 minutes.
Despite being shaken by the initial onslaught YM recovered and started to get into the game forcing a number of short corners but they found the Railway PC defence resolute and well organised.
The match continued in a similar vain with YM in the ascendancy in territory and possession but Railway looking more likely to score, and it was Railway who added a third as good interplay between Archie Wymes and Andi Zhu found a Zac Carroll run that saw his score a well taken reverse stick shot from a tight angle early in the second half.
YM put serious pressure on Railway and dictated the 3rd quarter but every effort was rebuffed by the Railway defence and in particular goalkeeper James Hiles who was called into action many times in open play and at set pieces but YM could find no way past him.
YM did score in the last play of the match albeit the Railway players strongly disputed the goal on danger and whether an attacker touched the ball in the circle. Irrespective it was a very good performance for a 3-1 or 3-0 victory and sees the u14s into the St Patricks day final for what should have been the third time in four years.
They will join the u16 boys who have also qualified through after defeating Bray in their semi-final and the u16 boys will play Kilkenny in the final.
All support welcome and when we will have details we will shared with the Yellow and Green supporters.
