Leinster Womens Indoor & Boys u14 Indoor Champions !

Railway Junior Hockey26 Jan - 23:53

Railway Women retain the Leinster Indoor title & our Boys win the Leinster u14 championship

Another action packed day of indoor hockey which was fitting as the weather turned and most outdoor hockey was cancelled.

The boys u14s had qualified through to the Portrane – Leinster finals day and they opened against the hosts Portrane registering a 3-1 win, further wins against Monkstown and Avoca followed but a final match defeat to Corinthians meant they had to wait and see other results if they would qualify through to the final.
With 3 wins, 1 draw and a loss their 10 points saw them top the group and would face their indoor rivals Portrane in the final.

Railway raced into an early lead in the final as Zac Carroll and Archie Wymes scored and then a Stephen O’Leary penalty stroke at the end of the first half saw the lead extend to 3. Portrane’s reduced the arrears but it was short lived as Zac Carroll scored from the restart with a solo run and finish. At 4-1 the final looked over but Portrane refused to lie down and two unanswered goals left the final on a knife edge at 4-3 and when Railway indiscipline hit the ball away a short corner upgrade gave Portrane an opportunity to send the final to 1v1s. However, it was fitting that it was Railway’s goalkeeper Cole Hogan who charged it down and won the match. Cole had been in great form all day and was awarded the GK of the tournament.

A big thanks for Mark Harris, Adrian Henchy and the O'Sullivan family for organising and supporting this tournament now in its 13th year and such an important tournament and for many clubs allowing their junior players to experience indoor hockey for the first time.

Leinster Womens Indoor Final – Railway v Portrane

In the Leinster Womens show piece it was again Railway who took on Portrane playing in their first senior indoor final.
It was Railway who exerted pressure early on and were ruthless in the circle as the five time defending champions raced to a 5-1 lead through goals from Orla Fox, Lily Lloyd (2) and Mati Errico (2). The experienced Railway squad who will be competing in Europe in a few weeks were always in control but a big credit to Portrane who rallied well, never gave up and then reduced arrears to 6-2, two further goals from Railway made the end result 8-2 (Lily Lloyd 4, Mati Errico 2, Orla Fox, Jenny Long).
A big congratulations to captain Orla Fox and coach Gareth Myburgh on another title for the girls with a number of important weekends ahead in the Irish Super 6s, Irish playoffs and the European B Division in Porto.

Thanks for the Leinster Indoor organisers particularly Arjen Van As and Rob Abbott who are at the forefront of running the league.
