Consistent with our core value of "Excel", the season really has been a successful one on the field of play across our club teams this year. Last weekend saw the Womens 1sts defeat Monkstown with a brace from Aisling Utri to retain the Irish Senior Cup. This meant that we have won the trophy for three consecutive years and only the second club to achieve that feat since the competition began in 1903.
Last Saturday morning started off with an agonising defeat - on sudden death 1v1s - for our Womens 2nds in the Irish Junior Cup Final, but the later victory restored the Railway spirits and both squads celebrated that evening in Park Avenue.
The focus shifts now to Lisnagarvey for the EYHL Champions Trophy Final 4. We play Portadown on Saturday at 12.30 with a victory there seeing us through to the Champions Trophy Final on Sunday at 1pm. Pembroke Wanderers face off against Loreto in the other semi final on Saturday morning (10.30am).
Having experienced the elite hockey that is the Euro Hockey League Finals for the past two seasons in 's-Hertogenbosch, the squad are keen to make it three in a row once again next weekend. It wont be an easy passage and the squad will need to play with pace and precision in attack combined with collective effort and astute defensive decision making to see off first Portadown and then the opponents in the Grand Final on Sunday.
The Railway supporters will travel in numbers as always to support the squad and we look forward to the team continuing to deliver the necessary performance levels on the pitch to bring the silverware back to Park Avenue on Sunday evening. Best of luck to the squad.
