Summer sun shines on the 2024/2025 season

Club End of Season Awards and BBQ held in sunshine at Park Avenue
Our End of Season BBQ and awards evening took place last Friday evening in balmy conditions at Park Avenue. The meal was prepared by Phil Lawlor of Off the Rails. Phil and Robbie have been operating Off the Rails coffee trailer every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, over the past few months at Railway and it has proven to be a very popular spot with members and the local community.

Over 90 people attended, young and old, players, supporters and friends of the club. Everyone enjoyed a sociable evening as we looked back on the highs and lows of the season.

Emma Smyth was awarded with the Club person of the Year. Emma was a key player in the W1 team success this season in winning (and retaining) both the EY Champions Trophy and the AIG Irish Senior Cup. Also winning the Jacqui Potter Cup and winning Ireland’s (women or men) first ever match at the Easter round of the EHL. Emma won Player of the Tournament at the Champions Trophy weekend again for the second year in a row. Emma has officially hung up her stick and leaves a remarkable legacy for the W1 team as being a key part of the team’s success throughout most of her playing career. Emma also made 141 capped appearances for Ireland.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the preparations for the end of season event, including Jobanpreet Singh, Paul O'Brien, Gillian Johnston, Evelyn Slye, Marcus Carter and Aran Bradshaw.

Over the summer months, all our Ireland representative players will continue to train and play, and we wish them all well.

Plans are now being made for preseason preparations. For those who want more hockey Summer Social Hockey has started on Tuesdays from 7.30pm-8.45pm and Saturdays from 2.00-3.30pm. You can register via the link above or by emailing railwaysocialhockey@gmail.com and we hope to see you there.
