Objective 3 - Create Recycle & Re-use culture
Sustainability in Sport Programme 4 of 4

4. Objective 3 - Create Recycle & Re-use culture

Environmental impact
At present when a junior player outgrows their stick if it is not handed down to family member these sticks which are still in good condition or just need re-gripped are put into storage or worse eventually into landfill.
This also applies to playing or training kit which might still be in perfectly good condition and other items of equipment hockey shoes, shin guards and particularly goalkeeping equipment.

What are we going to do about it?
- Recycling Hockey sticks- facilitate a system where club members can donate to the club sticks, and other equipment that is still in good condition or just needs some repair work.
- Recycling playing & training kit – we have partnered with Melissa O’Halloran who will operate a Used Uniform & Sports hear pop up shop at Railway Union. We will ask all Railway members to donate either directly to Melissa or at the Junior hockey shed and this will be passed on.
- Contact Meslissa https://www.instagram.com/eco.friendly.uniforms/
- Need to set up an equipment workshop / bench with tools and materials that will enable easy
repair of sticks and goalkeeping equipment.
- Educate and create awareness among members in how they can reduce their environmental
impact.
- Create a culture where players are proud to use re-cycled sticks and equipment as sign they are environmentally aware.
